Being raised in a large family is not as common as it used to be. I was Blessed to be the last of nine children, with parents that taught us the value of a dollar and work ethic. My parents Patricia and Philip Schlageter were a part of the greatest generation! They instilled in us at an early age to be responsible and independent. My mother’s dad had a dry goods store JT Koonce in a small rural community called Ezzell, near Hallettsville, TX. It was here where my mom helped her family of 5 siblings to run their business. My dad was the only son and had 2 sisters, and worked on a small farm near San Antonio. Then he served in the US Navy supporting our country during WWII. After the war he graduated from SWT (Texas State) on the G.I. Bill and worked for the Soil Conservation Service for several years out of Gonzales, TX.

Eventually in 1968, he and my mother decided to purchase a Western Auto store in La Marque, TX. All of us kids were moved from the country to the city, and our family operated the Western Auto for 30+ years. This is where we learned how to listen and take care of our customers' needs.

Fast forward to 1988 and I left La Marque to work for my brother at Kinko’s Copies located in San Marcos, TX. In 1995, I graduated from SWT with a major in Speech Communication, where I worked my way through school while working full-time at Kinko’s. It was at this time I met my beautiful wife Kimberly and we married in July 1997. We were subsequently were blessed with two sons, Jameson and Wyatt.

In 1998 I was given the opportunity to work for Matt Patterson (Farmers Insurance) which was across the street from Kinko’s. We worked together for 12 years; I was his Agency Producer. Matt was a great mentor and teacher for me to learn the insurance business.

Fast forward to 2010 and I decided to start an independent agency here in New Braunfels. The independent agency model has allowed me to offer more cost-effective options to my customers than what I was able to offer while working for a captured company like Farmers.

Today I represent 30 different companies that allow me to shop rates for the most cost-effective options while maintaining great customer service. I have a great staff starting with Lori Deleon, my office manager that will celebrate 10 years with us this September. Additionally, we have Darlene Kullburg that assists in the office, and two agency producers, Joe Martinez and Julie Mccrackin.

We are here to listen and offer cost-effective options for your insurance needs. We will be here before and after the sale. We service what we sell and are dedicated to taking care of our customers. I am incredibly blessed to come from a long line of family members with customer service experience! Carrying on the same dedication to family values set by my parents and grandparents drives me to go above and beyond for each person I serve.
